Verified. 5/5. . "Excellent experience and a solid product at the BEST price I found online. I had one small problem that did not meet my expectation when my knife arrived. Hollow Grind explained that their vendor changed terms and did not provide what I expected but Hollow Grind made it right anyway!!
Good practice was to stop short of fully grinding the edge and finish off with bench stones. The hollow from the dry grinder reduced the amount of hand grinding needed. This is not needed with a Tormek. The electric motor provides all the power. Old habits die hard, especially if we already have several bench stones.

The hollow grind is the way the blade has been ground, but you will be working only on the very edge. You can put whatever apex on the edge that you like. I ran into a similar problem with my full convex ground blades…I wanted to put a different edge on instead of a convex edge and I did. No problem. You can do the same with your hollow ...
Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) Cory, Very rarely will you see forged knives that were hollow grind, mostly people stick to Flat Grinding and more realistically Convex Grinding. Hollow Grinding itself is more of a extreme sharp for straight razors and fine work but the edge is not strong compared to Convex. Personally I don't like Hollow Grind ...
The convex grind is very strong, the hollow is great for cutting, with the flat grind represents a balance between strength and sharpness. An appropriate grind depends upon a blade's intended use and the knife steel composing it. Knife manufacturers may offer the same blade with different grinds and blade owners may choose to regrind their ...

My grinder is finally finished (mostly... few things left) so I thought I'd give a wing at hollow grinding. First off, 60 grit belt, at 3500 sfm, it goes it goes pretty fast! I took this up to 400 grit, but I'm having trouble holding the same exact position for the length of the blade, and...

1) arcs are strong the convex edge is now reinforced by the concave arc of the hollow grind, and if done in a steel like 1095 or 80crv2, twisting while batoning wood shouldnt be a problem. now on a blade this size that point is kind of irrelevant, but on bigger blades like our Bowie or camp knife it becomes relevant.
I think blaze orange 60 grit is a little to aggresive for hollow grinds as well . maybee just for a few passes then move on to 100 and so on . Im finding the wider the blade the harder it is to do as well and you cant make as wide of a hollow ghround . I do know this hollow ground knives are easier than flat grinding blades but thats just me.
The Hollow Grind . To make a hollow grind, the blade blank is applied to the surface of a grinding wheel or a belt passing around a wheel, taking a concave scoop out of the blade. The depth of the hollow will depend on the …
Hollow ground blades can be found with a number of different tooth counts, ranging from 40 up to 150 teeth. While the vast majority of woodworkers use the higher tooth count for a smoother cut, especially when crosscutting. Teeth mostly have negative hook angle in order to prevent over-feeding while cutting. This is crucial for double sided ...
However, many hollow grinds start below the spine and many flat grinds start at it. Probably the biggest disadvantage of a hollow grind though is that it doesn't make deep cuts as well through material that tends to bind. A flat grind can wedge apart the material it's cutting and prevent binding. One thing to keep in mind is that the hollow ...

I'm a big fan of hollow grinds on all my chisels and plane blades. I picked this up from Krenov's book, "The Fine Art of Cabinetmaking" a LONG time ago. I use a cheap 6" Delta high speed, (yes high speed), grinder with a 60 …
The hollow grind is a very common grind for knife blades. Hollow-ground blades offer excellent cutting properties and are more flexible than blades with a different type of grind. They are mainly used to for hunting and outdoor knives …
Since Victorinox is the worlds largest manufacturer of pocket knives, and Opinel is the second largest maker, I don't understand why the hollow grind does still exist. It is proven by both Victorinox and Opinel that the convex and flat grind can be made in huge numbers at low cost. #5 jackknife, Aug 1, 2015.
Hollow grinding goes back to the era when most home grinders were six inch (150mm) diameter. At that smaller diameter, the hollow is much more pronounced. This facilitates "two point" grinding. In my opinion, one can essentially ignore the hollow of a 250mm Tormek wheel. (By visual comparison, I also find little difference between the 200 and ...
A typical Siepmann or Berger hollow grinder used in mass producing hollow ground blades has a maximum wheel diameter of about 12", if I'm understanding your explanation correctly the resulting 6" radius is too small to make an effective hollow grind on a blade with a width of more than say 1/4" (ie a small slip-joint.)

This shows one way to hollow grind a knife. Hopefully it will offer you some tips to help with your grinding.
Like Walter Brend, Bob Dozier prefers the hollow grind. "For a hunting knife, the hollow grind is the best as it stays thin at the edge much longer," Dozier opines. Bob's fixed blade features a nice, clean hollow grind. (Kerry Peal images) However, that's not to say Dozier is adverse to other grinds. "The flat grind is the best for ...
Pros: Best of both worlds regarding durability and keenness. Very quick and easy to maintain the edge: A flat-over-hollow grind has very little metal at the edge which needs to be apexed and polished to sharpen the knife. You can sharpen your sloyd knife in just a few passes on a finishing stone instead of having to go through the grits.
A Simple Hollow Grinding Jig. This is a jig I threw together from things in my shop that makes it easy to create hollow-ground knife bevels. I would have made an instructable out of it, but I don't have any pictures of the process and it's pretty easy to see how the thing goes together any way.
